BALLOON IN A BOTTLE: WEATHER BALLOON MASTERCLASS

When launching professional rockets, it is important to confirm that the wind above the ground – also known as the vertical wind profile – is within safe limits for the flight, doing so as close to launch time as possible. This can be achieved with the use of weather balloons.

Having recently launched multiple weather balloons ahead of the Skylark Micro launch in Iceland a few weeks ago, we have come up with an activity that demonstrates how weather balloons function in relation to air pressure, and the importance of releasing weather balloons ahead of launch.
