January – March | Issue 9 | Date: April 16, 2025

A close look at the work carried out by Skyrora over the last few months.

A Letter from our CEO

As we conclude the first quarter of 2025, I am thrilled to share the remarkable progress Skyrora has achieved in our mission to revolutionise space exploration and manufacturing.

A key milestone this quarter has been the successful completion of rigorous testing for our first-stage tanks. This achievement marks a significant step forward in ensuring the reliability and performance of our launch vehicles, bringing us closer to operational readiness and reaffirming our commitment to delivering regular, reliable access to space from the UK.

Additionally, I am proud to announce further success in securing grants to advance our cutting-edge 3D printing technology. This funding will enable us to continue refining our additive manufacturing capabilities, including the development of innovative components for our launch vehicles. By leveraging our in-house hybrid 3D printer, Skyprint 2, we are not only enhancing efficiency and sustainability but also positioning Skyrora as a leader in aerospace manufacturing innovation.

These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication and ingenuity of our team, as well as the unwavering support of our partners and stakeholders. Together, we are shaping the future of space exploration and manufacturing, and I look forward to building on this momentum in the months ahead.
Thank you for your continued support as we reach new heights.

Significant progress has been made towards the engineering infrastructure required to undertake our First Stage hot fire test. Our engine 10 testing is ongoing, building towards the highly anticipated first-stage fire test. This testing is critical for validating the performance of our engines and ensuring they meet stringent safety and performance standards. Stay tuned for more updates and behind-the-scenes glimpses as we prepare for this pivotal event.

Engine Preparations: XL First-Stage Fire Testing Imminent

Preparations for the Skyrora XL first-stage fire testing are in their final stages, bringing us closer to a landmark achievement. Our team is closing in on the test site, meticulously preparing all necessary components and systems. We can’t wait to share this critical milestone with you as we continue to push the boundaries of UK launch capabilities.

3D Printing Innovation: GSTP Grant Progress

Skyrora is making significant headway with our GSTP grant, a testament to our commitment to pushing the boundaries of additive manufacturing. Through our collaboration with TWI (The Welding Institute), we are leveraging this grant to advance our 3D printing capabilities, specifically to enhance the efficiency and reliability of our rocket components. This collaborative success story underscores our dedication to innovation and the benefits of strategic partnerships.

Government Engagement: Amplifying Skyrora's Vision

Skyrora’s commitment to fostering innovation and growth within the UK space sector was highlighted through a series of impactful engagements this quarter. Alan Thompson, our Director of Government Affairs, gave evidence at the Scottish Affairs Select Committee on Feb 5th and the at the House of Lords Space Engagement Committee on March 24th . One of the main themes that was discussed during the latter included arguments in favour of the need for Sovereign Launch, and this seems to have continued to grow in significance and importance since then.

These active interventions and opportunities to make sure the launch industry’s needs were represented, were also aligned with submissions that Skyrora made to the Strategic Defence Review, the Defence Industrial Strategy, and the ongoing Space Regulatory Reform process (DSIT led) and in preparation for the DFT led SIR 2021 Review.

As Skyrora moves into the next quarter, we are excited to build on these achievements and further cement our position as a leader in the UK space industry. Stay tuned for more updates on our progress and innovative initiatives.
